Kristin Shot a Gun For The First Time Ever

On Saturday, I broadcasted live from Kam Shooting Sports for their Grand Opening of the indoor shooting range. When I confessed to the owner, Kevin, that I did not know much about guns, nor had I even HELD a gun, let alone shot one, he responded with “well, you’re going to today!”

Eek. Um, okay. We’re clearing the whole range out for me, right? Loading blanks? No? We’re shooting REAL BULLETS? WITH OTHER PEOPLE AROUND? Needless to say, I was a little bit nervous.

Kevin was GREAT! Showing me how to properly HOLD a gun (did you know your thumbs BOTH should be on the left side, tucked one right under the other? Otherwise you’ll cut up that skin between your thumb and pointer finger as the firing pin moves back.) before he loaded it. We started really small and worked my way up.

You can’t really hear it in the Facebook Live because the gunshot sound covers it, but I made kind of a high pitched squeak each time I pulled the trigger. I don’t know if the loud sound startled me, or if feeling the power of the bullet leaving the gun did, or what, but EVERY SINGLE TIME, I made this weird noise.

The police-grade glock startled me the most. There’s some SERIOUS power behind that gun. I was NOT a fan of that in MY hands. The 9 mm I shot toward the end  was what I was most accurate with. The smaller ones felt the most comfortable in my hand, although, Kevin said I have small hands but long fingers, and noticed I hand to back my pointer up to get it on to the trigger, so those probably wouldn’t be the best “fit” for me.

Check out my whole first experience here:

Kevin and the whole staff at Kam Shooting Sports was SO helpful and kind, I felt I was in good hands for my first handgun experience! They have classes, too, if you’d like to learn, and the range is just $18, if you need to practice… or release some stress.

Here are my targets!
